August 27, 2011 to hold the Utah GOP Caucus/mass meeting on a
different night than the Democratic Caucus. They didn't take a count
consequently no one has been able to tell me how many of the 100
SCC members voted for the different night from the Democrats.
Factoring in the decision is the
Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE Act)
This Act passed congress in 2009 and gives the military men more time
to receive and cast their ballots. My blog post on MOVE ACT
Note the times that SB 162 was voted
on, March 4 House,
and March 9 in Senate.
There was such a huge uproar by that
time on HB 477 I guess no one noticed the impact of this
bill on Utah.
Date of votes listed in Utah Legislature votes on SB 162 link above
In order for Utah to comply with this act they needed to move the date of theJune Primary later or move the caucus date up because the state convention
is now in April, slightly over 4 weeks after the caucus. Some county conventions
are only days AFTER the caucus, raising the question of how candidates
will get the delegate names prior to the conventions.
Another issue on the caucus is the candidate filing date. The candidate filing
date ends March 15, the date of the GOP caucus, however the Utah Democratic
caucus is 2 days BEFORE the candidate filing deadline in Utah.
